Our Story
Hello, I'm Leyla Özge Peker. My story began in the winter of 1984 in my beautiful city of Istanbul, which has always been a source of inspiration and strength for me. I believe that we are all born with a story, and that those who find the light within themselves over time are not merely characters in the story, but the story itself. Atelier Leyla Özge is the story of a woman who found the light within her. Writing this story was not easy at all.
Most of the time, we are forced to live within the roles assigned to us, in clothes tailored for us but not belonging to us. We get lost in learned phrases like "it doesn't suit me," or "it's not for my age." My journey became beautiful when I broke free from these phrases. How wonderful it is to look at the view from your own window, not others', and to find yourself in yourself, not in the judgments of others... After finding myself, I started hearing a lot from those around me, "it suits you, but it wouldn't suit me." Yet, just around a bend, I too was trapped in the same molds.
My dear woman, who forgot to form her own sentences amidst imposed clichés, who feared color, who avoided laughing out loud; what suits me, suits you too. The story begins with you deeming it suitable for yourself. A large earring, a colorful necklace, a striking ring... Everything you see on another woman and say "it suits her" suits you too. Neither body is independent of the soul, nor is the soul unaware of the body. Now, open the doors of your soul, let some light in💫
